Hello, we are Erin and David, two twenty-somethings from the Washington DC area who decided we couldn’t sit at desk jobs any longer without first broadening our horizons. In January 2010 we quit our jobs and headed to South Africa for 2 weeks. A month later we were on a plane to teach English in Tangshan, China…and have been exploring this country ever since. It’s our goal to learn as much we can about the Chinese language and culture, and to share our experiences with others. (We have a long way to go, as we are still completely deaf to the Mandarin tones.) Anyway, we love feeling connected to America and appreciate getting comments and questions, so please keep in touch! erinleehenshaw at gmail dot com

Hi Erin and David – I am enjoying your blog very much…maybe you can write a book after you move to your next adventure. I am in Qatar on business in Doha. I understand the beaches in Oman are beautiful, and while Doha is interesting, I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. The best part has been traveling Qatar airways business class…the way to go. Take care, keep writing. Sorry you’ll miss the DC walk this year 🙂 Do they have an Avonwalk in China?? be well. Gail

I would certainly LOVE to write a book! David’s dad did some work in Qatar and really loved it over there, he raved about the airline too! I would really like to make it there one day. I will be thinking about all the Avon Walkers while we are in Hong Kong…probably walking a similar amount of miles! I have subscribed to the Avon Foundation updates because they have done a few walks in Beijing, but haven’t heard anything so far. There are lots of Avon stores around here though! Congrats on the fundraising, you have been incredible for the second time. Get some rest before the big event!

I’m wondering if I’ve met you or if it’s TNT that is our connection. I have been a walk coach with the TNT National Capital Area Chapter, but am now living in Beijing. I received your invitation for a charity event at The Hutong. I’m near as the metro. I’d love to hear from you and compare notes.
